Of all the things surrounding religion, almost all agree that there are angels. Not all agree on their purpose and function, but the belief that there are supernatural beings watching over us is nearly universal. The sense that someone is always with us, watching over our coming and going, helping in times of trouble, protecting us from harm, and bringing comfort is something we all need.
Some say they have seen them. Some on Earth and some in out-of-body experiences. Some have wings and some look just like us. The bible describes angels as protecting God’s throne, rejoicing in Heaven when one of us turns their life over to Him, looking after His people, and bringing messages of His plans.
Growing up, I remember one of my grandmother’s favorite shows being, ‘Highway to Heaven’ with Michael Landon. It was a show about an angel who had been stripped of his wings and was sent to Earth to help redeem himself by helping people with the help of his cop friend. She loved that show and would tell me often, when I came to visit from college, that she prayed for angels to watch over me and that they are real. Here's a small clip of the opening and closing of that show below.
Personally, there have been times I’ve wondered if an angel was there helping me. Several times, while driving, before pulling out into traffic, after thinking the cost was clear, I’ve heard a nearly audible voice say, ‘STOP!’. Thankfully, I did, or I would have been a pancake on the road from a semi-truck that I didn’t see.
God gives His angels charge over us. We don’t need to pray to them because He’s the boss and will direct them as He sees fit. They are His servants to fulfill His mission and plans in this life. It is comforting just to know, however, that He sends His angels to keep us safe and watch over us.
Who knows, maybe one day I’ll meet one. Maybe, I have and didn't even know it. Either way, I’m glad they are there. So, today, I pray that God will put His angels around you to keep you and to protect you. That He will send them at just the right time when you need them the most.
Wishing you all a blessed week filled with peace my friends!
