Strength. It's an interesting word when you think about it. We all need it. We all long for it in tough times. We all envy it in others and we all are attracted to it. As I age, I'm noticing more and more the lack of physical strength compared to just a few years ago. Natural, yes, but still concerning. SO, daily push ups and, 'someday', the bike or a good workout.
When I was a teenager, I idolized Arnold Schwarzenneger. I had his posters on my wall, read his book over and over, and worked out almost every day just so I might, one day, look like him. Later, after meeting a former Mr. America, I learned that it was all artificially enhanced with drugs. That opened my eyes and I no longer wanted to be like Arnold! Yet, what I did learn was that resistance and repetition caused the muscle to grow stronger.
Life is like that. Our strength to overcome every day challenges doesn't come from a life of ease and comfort. It comes from facing challenges daily. When I look back at what I thought was a challenge now is no longer. Some of the greatest challenges I've had came when I was younger helping me to be stronger today.
Sometimes we feel too weak to go on. We see ourselves as unable to win. Maybe the challenges are just too great to overcome so we give up. It could be a thousand reasons that we feel weak. Yet, the Bible says, in our weakness is He made strong. We no longer have to do it ourselves. Does life make us stronger? YES. Can I depend on my own strength every day to get through life's challenges? NO.
In those toughest of times when I felt the weakest, it was my faith that carried me through. I am stronger today and don't ever want to experience some of those challenges again, but it was being connected to my power source that got me through, That power source was also friends and family. Being connected and having others help to carry the burdens I felt incapable of carrying.
Today's photo reminds me that I must stay connected; both to God and to my friends & family. Because, as much as I need them, they need me too. Yes, others need your strength. Even if you feel like you have nothing to give, sometimes it's just a word of encouragement from someone who's been there. Or, taking just a few moments to listen to someone who needs a friend to talk to.
I will forever remember those friends and family who stood by me in one of the darkest moments of my life (you know who you are... :).. ). Just being there gave me strength to get through those times (along with God's help of course).
Be encouraged today! Even if you feel weak and alone, there's One who will never leave you or forsake you.. His name is Jesus and He will carry you. And, you also might be surprised at just who else in this life may come along at just the right time to be there with you.
Wishing you a blessed, and connected, weekend my friends!
