"Move!"

Have you ever had one of those moments when something happens in your life that makes you stop and say to yourself, ‘huh, that’s just too perfect to be coincidental’?  It may have been that one person in your life that comes along who you marry or who becomes your best friend.

Nearly all of us can look back at a time in our life when something happened that seemed to be, if you will, preordained.  I’m not saying that everything in our life is preordained (some do feel that way), but I am saying, there may be times when a higher power works His way in our lives.

Before coming to Texas, I was living in a great place called Foster City, CA.  I had a second story apartment that was across the street from the bay a few miles south of San Francisco.  I would bike and run along the water nearly every day.

I had come through a very difficult time in my life and this was where I found healing.  I was in the mortgage business at the time and worked from home.  One morning, I had taken a cat-nap (you can do that when you work for yourself) and I was suddenly jolted from my nap when I heard a voice in my heart say, ‘It’s Time!!’

I knew what it meant.  I was supposed to move to Texas.  My children had moved there several years prior and I had tried to move there for a brief time a little over a year before as well, but decided it wasn’t the right time.  That was when I moved to Foster City.

I asked God, if that was Him, I would need a confirmation.  The day I was going down to the office to hand in my notice, I was still wrestling with the decision.  I checked my mail that day and in the pile was a flyer, the one in the photo today, saying “Move!”

Sure enough, a few months later, I was in Texas.  I wasn’t 100% sure why, but I had a sense of where to move and even where I was to go to church.  One day at church, I saw a flyer about a divorce care class.  I thought, ‘I don’t want to go to that…’ Sure enough, that still, small voice in my heart said, “Go!”

I obeyed that prompting and went.  Little did I know, the Mrs., who had already attended that class once, felt she was supposed to go again after wrestling with that same nudging.  It was only a few months later that we had an ‘accidental date’ on April Fool’s day and the rest is history.

To say all that happened by chance, for me at least, wouldn’t be possible.  The timing, the nudging, the mail on the day I was needing confirmation, and the same thing happening with the Mrs. was more than coincidental.  It was a higher power at work in our lives.

Not everyone can say they’ve experienced something like that, but most of us have had a nudge or a thought that we need to do something.  We may not have thought it was a higher power at the time, but later realized it changed our lives.

God doesn’t speak to us like He did with Moses in the movie The Ten Commandments (well, some may think He does with them). No, He speaks in a still, small voice or even a thought.  For some, He speaks to us in our dreams.  One day, I will share more about my dream experiences of things that later happened.

Suffice to say, God does talk today.  He talks to all of us.  All we need to do is try to hear.  It may be that nudge to call a friend or loved one, help a person in need, to turn away from something that will bring harm or pain to us, or it may just be to move somewhere we’ve never thought we would.

Be encouraged today.  There is a higher power and He loves us enough to be concerned about the smallest of things in our life.  He wants to speak to us and help us get through our daily struggles.  It’s rarely that mountain-top experience.  Instead, it’s most often that gentle, loving nudge, or feeling, that speaks louder than anything.

He can, and will, guide us (sometimes when we don’t even know He is) to a place where we can find peace, strength, and healing.  All He asks of us, is to trust Him when He gives us those loving nudges because He truly does have good plans for us.

Amen and goodnight my friend,

Brad
