Here we are back in Spring bad weather territory once again.  It’s that time of year when, at least in Texas, we need to keep an eye on the sky and weather reports.  I’ve been in several major earthquakes and snowstorms, but the storms here make those look like child’s play.  Between the tornados, flooding, and hurricanes, one needs to have a shelter ready to run to.

A few years back, I had the chance to visit Oklahoma City after the last F5 went through.  To say it looked like a war zone is an understatement.  Cars were wrinkled up and strewn about like they’d been tossed around like old toys.  The wood from the homes had been broken into small pieces and spread throughout the area in circular patterns.   Below is a photo taken in one of the worst areas.

Seeing the power of nature to bring destruction certainly brings everything home.  I no longer take it lightly when I hear the sirens.  I know where our safe place is just in case.   When I look at the clouds I can tell when something bad is on the way.  I took the photo below during a drive home from Houston.  The wall cloud was producing very heavy hail in the area and, believe me, I stayed far away from it.

Sometimes, it feels like we’re in the middle of a hail storm in our lives.  The unexpected change of direction the winds of life take.  The cold current that blows in when everything seemed so calm.  The sudden darkness that seems to overwhelm us.   The flashes of lightening and thunder that stir fear in our hearts.  Yes, those thunderstorms can remind us of our lives.

Where do we go for shelter when those life storms come up?  What do we do?  How do we recognize them before they take everything from us?  We can’t predict when they’ll come.  We don’t know what they’ll bring.  All we can do is pray and trust the One who created everything to look over us.

He will shelter us from those storms when it seems like life is spinning out of control.  He will protect us from the hail stones that fall unexpectantly and from the floods that rise threatening to wash away our very lives.  He will keep us when the winds blow and bring light to our path when darkness falls.  He will give us peace when the thunder of the evil one tries to drive fear into our hearts.

I thank God for the many times He has sheltered me during the storms of life.  Without His shelter, I truly don’t know where I would be today.  It was simple faith, prayer, and surrender that allowed Him to cover me with sheltering care.

Today, I want to encourage you that, when the storms of life begin to rage, and it seems like you’re in the middle of the downpour, He will be your shelter and strength.  He will cover you and protect you if you let Him.  He is faithful and true to the end.  He loves us all more than we can even understand.

If you feel like you’re in the middle of that storm, hang on.  He is there with you, in the midst of it, and will be your shelter

Amen and goodnight my friend,
