One of the things the Mrs. and I love to do is take walks together. We’re blessed to live in the historic neighborhood of our town only about a half-mile away from the downtown square which makes it easy for us to take a walk there and back.
There’s a street around the corner we usually take and the first house on that street we lovingly call, ‘The Shamrock House’. Partly because it’s green and partly because it has a clover on the side. The shamrock is traditionally a three-leaf clover while the four-leaf is a rarely found genetic hybrid known to bring good luck. But, we like to call it ‘The Shamrock House’ anyway…
Having some Irish descent on my mother’s side makes me feel right at home walking by that house. Someday, maybe the Mrs. and I will be able to walk the fields of Ireland together.
More important to me is that special time I have with the Mrs. It seems to be the only time we can really get away and talk. No TV, no dogs, no noise, just us and the outdoors. We often talk about the homes in the area.
In fact, we had a funny thing happen the other day. We took a nearby side street where a home has been under renovation for the past year or so. We didn’t think anyone was living in it yet, so I took a peek in the window. Within a few seconds, the owner came out he door!... We were just a little surprised (and so was he). It turned out to be a blessing and we took a tour of their home and made acquaintance with our new neighbors (who happened to know some of the same people we do).
It’s important to take that time with the one we love; even if it’s just 20 minutes. I’m blessed to work from home, so we can take that walk in the morning and not feel pressure but, even if I didn’t, I would try to take some time to get away with her and just talk. It’s been one of the best things we do as a couple (in my opinion…).
We’ll be looking forward to more walks this weekend. Wishing you all a great, and restful, weekend too!
